MSP’s design for the Hot Pot Master Garden at the Upper Yangtze River City Flower Art Expo Master Garden honors this important Chongqing social event.

The Hot Pot is not just a dish: it is culturally significant gathering. Across Chongqing, there are over 20,000 Hot Pot restaurants, and one in 30 citizens works in a job that is related to the hot pot. The ritual of sitting together at a Hot Pot table is something special, shared between close friends and families.

This tradition is celebrated in our design. We used an array of innovative technologies to fabricate the nine rooms, each of which creates a unique immersive experience. The rooms represent nine common ingredients in the Chongqing Hot Pot: duck intestine, yellow throat, chili pepper, Sichuan pepper, butter, blood curd, garlic, spices, and enoki mushroom. Each room offers a place to explore and discover, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in colors, texture and fragrances.

Together, these rooms combine to create a unified garden of curiosities and celebration of the Chongqing Hot Pot.

A quarter of global carbon emissions come from food production. The rise in global temperatures is jeopardising food security for the planet. Although 830 million people are undernourished around the world, up to 30% of food is lost or wasted. Hot Pot turns foods that may otherwise be wasted, such as animal organs, into delicious and nutritious meals, reducing food waste. This remarkable dish will be able to adapt to changing food supplies in the future.
