MSP collaborated with SOM to design richly landscaped open spaces for the new Pluit City, incorporating indigenous landscape materials.

Parks, outdoor spaces and waterfronts will support an exciting sea-island lifestyle.

The 90,000 m2 central park links the soft green western edge with the harder urban western edge: no neighborhood is more than a five-minute walk from the park. In addition, MSP designed a number of community parks, with play areas, club houses, swimming pools and sporting areas. Plazas with extensive dynamic shade structures support markets, food stalls and weekend events.

MSP worked closely with the client and SOM to develop a world-class green infrastructure system that will capture, retain and recycle an eight-month supply of drinkable water for the residents. Over 5% of the island is given to different water bodies, which hold and purify storm and grey water; they also provide public recreational amenities, cool the summer heat, and sustain a rich variety of plant and animal life.

A network of green spaces, public plazas and community parks will link the mixed-use districts to residential neighbourhoods, offering play areas, club houses, swimming pools and sporting areas. Residents will be able to walk from the heart of the island development to the water’s edge. MSP designed the island’s 6,000 metres of waterfront into a series of recreational linear parks, with bicycle circuits and plazas for socialising, as well as expanding and protecting the important mangrove habitats.

Pluit City Island 1 is the first phase in the development of a new reclaimed archipelago in historic Jakarta Pay. The 160-hectare island will be home to 75,000 residents. The masterplan by SOM includes shop-houses (‘ruko’ meaning ‘live-work’) a shopping plaza, office towers, apartment blocks and beach houses, as well as open spaces which encourage a healthy urban lifestyle.
